Franklin County Animal Shelter pleads for help finding forever homes for furry friends

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Amid concerns about crowded kennels, the Franklin County Animal Shelter is offering half-off adoptions for numerous dogs, cats, and kittens in order to help these furry friends find families ahead of the holiday season.

The animal shelter says it has numerous dogs available for adoption, as well as dogs on stray hold.

If you are missing your dog or know the owner of the stray dogs photographed below, you are urged to claim the dog or tell the owner to come claim their dog.

Meanwhile, the shelter is offering a 50-percent discount on adoption fees for dogs — excluding puppies and dachshunds — through Saturday, Nov. 26. This means for the cost of just $20, “you can adopt any of these amazing dogs and show them the love they deserve,” according to the shelter’s Facebook page.

In addition, there are currently three dogs at the shelter that are free because their adoption fees have been sponsored.

Besides having a large number of canines, the animal shelter says it is “seriously at capacity” when it comes to felines, leaving both the adoption rooms and the community room completely full.

“This means that as we continue to get surrenders, strays, etc…. Decisions may have to be made,” the Franklin County Animal Shelter wrote on Facebook on Tuesday, Nov. 23. “Every condo is full some are doubled! Every one of the cats deserve an amazing home and they all have wonderful personalities! Please, do not let us get to the point that we even have to consider the ‘E’ word.”

The shelter is offering half-off adoptions for cats and kittens, which brings the adoption fee down to $10. On top of that, the adoption costs for several felines have already been sponsored.

Even if you cannot bring home a new pet at this time, the shelter urges you to help with the adoption efforts by sharing the shelter’s social media posts or sponsoring adoption fees.
