ACS looking to re-home 11 animals not chosen by transport shelters

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Animal Care Services is asking anyone who is interested in fostering or adopting a new furry friend to do so, as time is of the essence for nearly 15 of its animals.

“If you’ve been considering adopting a shelter pet or fostering a pet in need, now is the time,” ACS said Sunday on social media.

This comes after 15 pets at the animal shelter were chosen to board a transport flight to “start the next chapter of their lives” last weekend.

However, ACS said the flight didn’t go as planned due to unforeseen circumstances.

“While flight transports can often lead to much success for overcrowded shelters, there are many factors that go into play in organizing these efforts. Often, some of these efforts are unfortunately out of our control,” said ACS.

As ACS officials and foster families worked around the transport date, they were later notified that nearly 15 of their pets wouldn’t be chosen by the transport shelters.

With ACS taking in new pets each day, the shelter said they don’t have the capacity to re-house the animals who weren’t chosen. The animals are now looking for their next place to call home.

“We’ve reached out to our local rescue partners and additional fosters to prevent this group from coming back into our shelter, however, with the high number of pets that continue to enter our shelter daily (many who are lost, sick/injured, surrendered into our care), we do not have the capacity to bring them back,” ACS officials said.

Kaloo, Blue, Morty, Rick, Benny JJ, Tank, Sammy, Celia, Momma Bear, Kiki and Sharan are available to foster or adopt. You can learn more about these animals in the video shared below:
