The Todd Pletcher-trained Mo Donegal is the 5-2 favorite in the 2022 Holy Bull Stakes odds. The Dale Romans-trained Giant Game is getting 7-2 in the nine-horse 2022 Holy Bull Stakes field, while the Antonio Sano-trained Simplification is next at 4-1. The winner of the 1 1/16-mile race will receive 10 qualifying points towards the Kentucky Derby 2022.

One surprise: Weir’s top pick is not Mo Donegal, even though he is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. A $250,000 purchase as a yearling, Mo Donegal has two wins and one third in three career starts. He is coming off a win in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes on Dec. 4.

But Mo Donegal benefitted from a slow pace in the Remsen. “I’m not convinced by his last race,” Weir told SportsLine. “I want to see him in a fairly run race with a solid pace. I think he is vulnerable at a short price, and he might be in a better spot next time.” Weir prefers multiple horses over Mo Donegal.
